Dear all,

In order to get a better handle on these spammers, I'm in the process of upgrading the SNITZ forum software. This is still just an interim fix - I still want to migrate to a different platform - but in the near-term implementing some improvements to get the spammers under control will be a good thing.

I just upgraded the application to the latest version. I will continue to tweak it - including (maybe) the addition of some useful mods (we'll see).

If you have a problem of any kind, please send me an e-mail using the site e-mail function.

Kind regards,

JoeBobb

Another update - especially for the moderators, etc - I have added a bunch of spam e-mail domains to a filter that is built into this new forum build - so hopefully the quantity of spam posters that actually make it through will drop considerably.

Everything seems to be working fine and I see the addition of a zap but not sure of what it does.

Well, if you have a spammer or a user you want to lock, use the "Zap" button and it will not only lock his account, but delete all of the user-defined fields he's filled in - crap like "website" "MSN ID", etc. You'll also get a window that will give you the option of deleting all of his posts...so it's like an "all-in-one" button...hence the name "ZAP!"

Have fun with it! Hopefully with the changes to the registration process, it won't be that necessary...which is to say, hopefully fewer spammers will open up user accounts to begin with.

Best regards,

JoeBobb

Found the first bug with the upgraded software...the site e-mail function is not working. I'll look into this tomorrow...no idea what the problem is. I hope it has nothing to do with the code adjustments for the various mods. It'll be like looking for the proverbial needle...

One other bug is if you click the blue arrow next to a username to go to the last post in a topic, it redirects to the homepage.
Zap sounds good though.

Another bug...this makes three: Can't add new forums within existing categories. I think there is a problem in the file "post_info.asp".

EVERYONE: If you find anything on the site that's not working - even a bad link - or if you have suggestions for things to add - like links to related websites, etc - please post the issue or suggestion here and we'll see if we can fixerize it!

Kind regards,

JoeBobb

OK - one bug fixed, it seems...the site e-mail should be working now.

Note that as an anti-spam measure, users will not be able to send other users an e-mail within the site until they have made two posts on the site. Not a difficult hurdle to cross I think.

Kind regards,

JoeBobb
